IOM Acquires the First 6th Generation Amaris Laser in Spain
The Institut Oftálmic de Mallorca (IOM) has just acquired the sixth generation Amaris laser, becoming the first Balearic Island Ophthalmology Centre with this equipment.
Thus, the Institut Oftálmic de Mallorca is now the third leading centre in Spain after the Instituto Oftálmic Tres Torres of Barcelona and the VISSUM Hospital in Alicante.
It is a specially designed laser for refractive surgery (long sight, short sight and astigmatism); however, it can be used to treat irregular corneas and corneal scarring due to ulcers, decentrations of prior treatments and increase prior optical segments. It will also feature specific treatment for long-sightedness.
One of the main advantages of this equipment is the high speed treatment which combined with smart shot distribution control, reduces later corneal inflammation by 80%. Moreover, the small diameter of each shot which must less than other lasers makes it possible to achieve an extremely polished corneal surface.
Also advantageous are its 1050 Hz eye tracker - the largest by far on the market-, and its unique cyclotorsion control system. This means the eye can be perfectly monitored throughout the procedure.
The Institut Oftà lmic de Mallorca will carry out a campaign under the motto “Keep Your Eyes Safe" in order to spread knowledge of Amaris Laser on the Balearic Islands highlighting its reliability, accuracy and safety when it comes to vision correction.
The IOM has introduced refractive surgery at the Rotger Clinic with two new lasers – the IntraLase that produces the corneal flap (the first step) and the Amaris Laser which enables personalized treatments and treatments for ocular aberrations (second step). In this manner, the IOM will achieve excellent results on Mallorca in these refractive surgery treatments.
