Cataracts

What is it?

Loss of lens transparency.

Causes

Generally progressive, may be congenital or a medical side-effect, systemic disease, traumatism, etc

Symptoms

Progressive loss of vision, dazzling, frequent changes of graduation.

Treatment

May be initially offset with spectacles, but treatment is always surgical. This consists of the extraction of the lens and the implanting of an intraocular monofocal lens (restores clear sight at a distance, for near objects spectacles are needed) or multifocal lens (provides clear sight for near and far objects).
