Emergencies will be attended Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the headquarters of IOM (Ophthalmologic Institute of Majorca). Out of this time, you have at your disposal our 24h ward service, which is located at Clínica Rotger in Palma.



What is it?

A reduction of visual sharpness without any organic injury causing it. Consequence of lack of visual stimulation during development which affects the neuronal centres which control vision. Almost always unilateral although it may be bilateral. Normally associated with a refractive error (myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism) or strabismus.


  • Early detection and determination of the cause is vital
  • Refraction error corrected by spectacles, contact lenses, etc.
  • Occlusions
  • Visual therapy
  • Surgery (in some cases)
